Two quotes from Goethe
Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it; Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it.’
‘Until one is committed there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back. . .’
Aspirations Week
This week we have been focussing on our aspirations. We have talked about what we want to do before we leave primary school and when we grow up.
We discussed having dreams and not setting glass ceilings for ourselves. We put our ideas on an Aspiration Tree (pictured below). Just think someone in this school may find a cure for an illness, represent their country at sport, become a famous inventor, become the Prime Minister or fly to and live on Mars. Dream big.
We were also very lucky to have some visitors on Thursday afternoon. Mr Cushion brought his Police Dog Dudley to school and he talked to the children about his job in the police and working with his dogs. The children were also lucky enough to go and see his police car. Dudley was so cute all the members of staff forgot to take his picture, sorry Dudley. The children were full of questions and enjoyed fussing Dudley.
Nick Coleman of Tree Care came to talk to us about the safety of trees. He brought some amazing equipment with him. The children could see what it was like inside a tree and the image appeared on his laptop. Another test was to see if the tree was rotten. Nick had a large drill (pictured below) that went straight into the trunk and measured the rings to see if any areas were rotten, it gave a read out to show the damaged areas. All the children were enthralled with the facts and all the equipment.
Mrs Tooke came in to talk to Dragonfly class about her experiences of working within the care profession. A sector that provides vital support to keep our communities running. Mrs Tooke was asked a lot of questions after her informative talk about the different roles and responsibilities of working in this sector.
Hopefully the children have had their horizons broadened and they have aspirations to do great things.
Thank-you to all the people who came in and gave their time. It made for a memorable afternoon.
