The Reading Agency and Norfolk library and Information Service are excited to introduce Wild World Heroes, Summer Reading Challenge 2021: a celebration of nature and action for the environment, in partnership with WWF UK.
The Challenge
The Summer Reading Challenge takes place every year during the summer holidays and aims to support children’s reading for pleasure and prevent a dip in reading over the six-week break.
As well as supporting literacy, reading is a fantastic way to promote mental wellbeing and have fun.
You can set your own reading goals, but we recommend reading six books.
There is a digital platform too, so the fun can carry on at home! Here you will find games, activities, book recommendations and a fun book sorter, visit the Summer Reading Challenge website.
How to register
You can register for the Summer Reading Challenge at your local library or mobile library.
Your child will receive a free pack that includes a map of the fictional town of Wilderville. The aim of the game is to read a book, collect a sticker to put on the map (some are scratch and sniff!) and solve the clues.
Joining your local library is free. You can either visit us and a friendly member of staff will be able to join you and your family straight away (you will need to bring proof of address such as a utility bill), or you can join the library on our website. After this your children will have access to thousands of free books in libraries and online to complete the challenge.

To make the Summer Reading Challenge even more fun, we are providing a different free activity sheet every week during the summer holidays to pick up when you visit us.
We are also very excited to have Jess French, best-selling author, vet and Cbeebies TV presenter; Gill Lewis, award winning author and vet; and John Kirk, renowned storyteller all doing online events for us.
